Sprouts

Seedlings Forest Education wishes to recognize and acknowledge the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, on whose traditional territories we live, we learn, and we do our work.

Sprouts at Seedlings Toddler Program (Coming March/April 2023)

Our Sprouts toddler program continues to build developmental skills and helps prepare kiddos for the 3-to-5 year program. The toddler program--while still maintaining flexibility--has a more consistent set routine including two circle times and a nap/rest time.

Our educators use positive role modeling to assist children through the daily routine and play. Every day, our toddlers enjoy circle time, music and movement, art, science, indoor and outdoor play, and sensory experiences. With a strong focus on forest-based education, Sprouts participants will spend a good portion of their day outside in a natural environment, rain or shine.

Our Seedlings forest educators have created a fun, warm, exciting, and nurturing environment that allows toddlers to develop at their own pace. We look forward to watching your Sprout grow.

Nature programs promote emergent and experiential learning, providing child-initiated, play-based experiences in the natural world that lead to individualized learning. As a result, direct instruction in a nature-based program is limited. The following practices relate to the development of a child-focused curriculum in a nature-based setting.

Practices
  1.  Children’s interests and abilities direct learning opportunities and assessment.
  2.  Teachers emphasize opportunities for individualized learning across learning environments.
  3.  Children’s inquiry is used to encourage higher-order thinking, and the inquiry process is allowed to continue for as long as children’s interest remains.
  4.  Teachers provide a daily routine that allows for flexibility.
